Known as the Copy Ninja of Konoha, Kakashi remains one of the most popular characters in Naruto. His seemingly detached and relaxed personality hides a heavy burden. Over the course of the series, Kakashi has endured many hardships, including the loss of his loved ones, while becoming a stronger shinobi, a crucial aspect during the Fourth Great Ninja War.

The repercussions of this war were considerable, including for Kakashi, who lost his ability to use the Susanoo. So why can't Kakashi use the Susanoo anymore?

Why can't Kakashi use the Susanoo anymore?

The mystery behind Kakashi's inability to summon the Susanoo lies in the loss of his Sharingan during the confrontation with Madara Uchiwa. In the past, Kakashi had inherited a Sharingan from his comrade Obito Uchiwa, whom he believed was about to die.

However, the Fourth Great Shinobi War revealed a surprising truth: Obito was still alive. Kakashi's Mangekyō Sharingan, a power awakened after the tragic fate of Rin Nohara, enabled him, through Obito's influence, to temporarily master the mighty Susanoo. However, this ability dissipated with the end of the war and Obito's disappearance.

The death of Rin Nohara: The awakening of Mangekyō Sharingan

Theawakening of Kakashi's Mangekyō Sharingan, a pivotal moment in his life, came at the time of Rin Nohara's death. Dōjutsu, in the Naruto series, represents an incredibly powerful force, with some members of the Uchiwa clan holding the strongest Dōjutsu in the original series.

These extraordinary abilities became crucial towards the end of Naruto Shippuden, as the conflict intensified, marked by the use of ancient powers by renegade ninjas. Since the first episodes of Naruto, a gigantic plot had been brewing, orchestrated by Madara Uchiwa and involving the governments of the hidden villages. Madara manipulated many people for decades, causingimmense suffering to his own clan.

The Uchiwa clan were feared and respected for their ability to switch quickly between good and evil. These emotions manifested themselves in their Dōjutsu, both a curse and a blessing. The Sharingan, in particular, was recognized as the most powerful Dōjutsu, capable of deploying powers on a planetary scale.

In this context, Hatake Kakashi, although not an Uchiwa, inherited a Sharingan eye during one of the most tragic moments of his life: the death of his close friend, Obito Uchiwa. The Third Shinobi War was marked by despair and the bloodshed of innocents, including young shinobi like Kakashi, Obito and Rin.

When the Minato team was attacked, Rin was captured, and Obito activated his Sharingan for the first time. This event was a lesson for Kakashi, teaching him that the path of the ninja must put the lives of others before blind duty to the government.

Shortly afterwards, Obito sacrificed himself to save his teammates, bequeathing his Sharingan to Kakashi in his final moments. A few months later, with Rin's death to protect his village, Kakashi activated his Mangekyō Sharingan. Since then, he has forged a reputation as a Copy Ninja, a man and a legend thanks to the Sharingan.

Kakashi's first attempt with the Susanoo

Kakashi's experience with the Susanoo was impressive, if brief. We've already mentioned the conspiracy that nearly destroyed the ninja world over several decades, and how Naruto, with his efforts for peace, prevented this catastrophe. However, it was a difficult road, marked by constant loss and a sense of despair until the ultimate confrontation.

At first, in a move worthy of a superhero, Madara Uchiwa snatches Kakashi's Sharingan to place him in his own orbit, an incredible turning point in the story. Then, with Black Zetsu's betrayal of Madara and thesummoning of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, Kakashi, Team Seven and Obito face a formidable new obstacle. Kaguya, the shinobi goddess and most powerful being ever to walk the Earth, appears to wreak havoc.

However, Team Seven has a mission: Kakashi must help his former students defeat the goddess. Obito, without hesitation, offers his soul to his friend, enabling Kakashi to invoke the Susanoo for the first time in the Naruto series. This moment was a peak of excitement for fans, as the powers of Kakashi's Sharingan developed over the 500 episodes of the anime, reaching their apogee.

Kakashi uses the Susanoo to save Sakura, then as a diversion for Sasuke and Naruto, who relentlessly attack the powerful goddess. Although Kakashi's Susanoo is splendid and impressive, Kaguya eventually destroys it. This battle marks the last time Kakashi will use the Susanoo.

Obito's death marked the end of Kakashi's Sharingan.

Obito's final demise marked the end of the Sharingan era for Kakashi. Technically, it was when Madara took his Sharingan that Kakashi lost his ability to use the Susanoo. But the real end of this era came whenObito passed on his soul to Kakashi.

With this soul, Kakashi received a fully developed Mangekyō Sharingan. However, following Kaguya's destruction of his avatar and Obito's final rest, in an emotional moment at the end of the series, Kakashi permanently lost the ability to use Sharingan-related jutsu.
